We’ve seen it done well, and we’ve seen it done in ways that cause problems later. It’s one of those details that’s easy to overlook early on, but much harder to fix once everything is finished.

Not every space is built for a gas or wood fireplace. We see that a lot in renovations, apartments, and rooms where venting just isn’t realistic. We’re often brought into projects after the framing is already done. At that point, options are limited. The venting has to work around what’s already there. The size gets dictated by the space that’s left. Sometimes the fireplace ends up being smaller or placed differently than originally imagined.
