FAQ’s
Q1) Why is there smoke and a very strong smell coming from my fireplace?
A1) When you first run your vent free fireplace you will experience a “burn off period.” The burn off will create an odor and may even set off a smoke alarm. A burn off can last anywhere from 6 to 8 hours. The burn off period is when any excess paint, machine oils, dust, or factory residue gets burned off of the components of the fireplace. It is essentially a curing period. All vent free products will emit a slight smell when in operation due to the fact that combustion is taking place.

Q2) How do I know how much BTU’s are right for my living space?
A2) How to calculate the vent-free BTU’s for your cubic footage.
Calculate your cubic footage by multiplying the length, width, and height of your living space.
Use your Vent Free calculator to determine how many BTU’s are right for you.
First of all, let’s figure out your cubic footage.
Enter the width, length, and height of all rooms that flow into each other, in other words all of the rooms that are not separated by a door. Start with the room you plan on putting your vent free unit it.
Length Width Height
Room 1
Room 2
Room 3
Room 4
Room 5

Total Cubic Footage XXXX x 3.4BTU = Total BTU’s for your vent free unit

Q3) How do I know what size burner and log set to use for my fireplace?
A3) If you have a pre-fabricated wood burning fireplace or vent free firebox, thee here are some guidelines
If the opening width of your fireplace is 36” then you would use 24” vent free burner and logs
If the opening width of your fireplace is 42” then you would use a 30” vent free burner and logs
If the opening width of your fireplace is less than 36” then you would use an 18” vent free burner and logs

If you have a masonry fireplace then here is how you calculate the size of vent free burner and log sets.
Take the opening width of your masonry fireplace, subtract 8 inches and then round down to the next size vent free burner and log set.

For Example: If your masonry fireplace has a 39” opening, then subtract 8 inches which would give you 31”. Then round down to the next size vent free log set which would be a 30” burner and log set.

X – 8 =
Then round down to 18, 24 or 36.
